COMMITTEES

TSS aims to grow the inclusion and active participation of microbiologists across New Jersey at different institutions. To accomplish this, TSS committees are led by trainees and at-large members.

Fall and Spring Symposium Planning Committee

Chaired by the TSS President, this committee organizes the Fall and Spring TSS Symposiums. Examples of activities organized by this committee include planning the meeting agenda, inviting abstracts for posters and oral presentations, planning post-meeting social activities, and performing logistical support for room setups, catering, name tags, etc.

Outreach Committee

Chaired by the TSS President, this committee broadens the reach and participation of TSS across New Jersey institutions. Examples of activities organized by this committee include disseminating information about TSS to New Jersey institutions, establishing ASM TSS chapters at all New Jersey colleges / universities, the creation of cross-institution social and professional activities, organization of annual high school outreach event(s) across the state, including judges at high school science fairs. Liaising with industrial partners for career panels, creation of internship opportunities, dissemination of job opportunities, and sponsorship at TSS annual meetings.

Social Media Committee

Chaired by the TSS Secretary, this committee increases the online presence and visibility of TSS. Examples of activities organized by this committee include the generation and distribution of online content for posting on the TSS website and social media platforms. Such content may include posts about TSS and campus chapter social events and annual meetings, summaries of publications by TSS members in peer-reviewed journals, and announcements about career panels, career opportunities, or other TSS events.

Fundraising Committee

Chaired by the TSS Treasurer, this committee will explore ideas on increasing TSS funds. Such funds will only be used to support poster prizes at TSS annual meetings, ASM student chapters, and cross-institutional social and outreach events. Examples of fundraisers may be TSS-branded merchandise such as t-shirts and swag.
